This place was a joke. I went in with extreme back pain and was treated like a drug addicted and told that everyone has back pain and discharged without any test or answers. I the went right to Northeast Georgia medical center and was diagnosed with 4 herniated discs within 2 hours and treated amazing.... I wouldn't recommend taking your dog to Chatuge Regional!!
However, there are plenty of negatives. Starting with the size of the hospital itself... it's fairly small, so there's not as many resources or trained staff that you would find at a larger hospital. During many of the shifts there is only one BSN on duty, with mostly LPNs for assistance. I've had friends work here who claim the hospital is almost always understaffed. Also, the doctors here can be pretty horrible and tough to deal with. They're basically all elderly gentlemen who have worked here for AGES, so they usually have this careless air about them. Some of them can be stingy with medications, it honestly just depends who you're dealing with.
As a lifelong resident of the area, I can say that Chatuge is really a hit-or-miss when it comes to receiving good care.
Starting with the positives, one of the biggest pros is that there is never a wait for the ER, ever! Much better than nearby hospitals like Murphy Medical or Union General, which are notorious for long wait times. Also, the nursing staff here is pretty decent. Most of the nurses I've dealt with here are friendly and truly do seem to care. The hospital is usually very clean, and the front is newly renovated.
Came here for a possible miscarriage so obviously I'm already distraught. There's next to no one in the waiting room or ER examination rooms. My husband and I were waiting for hours for blood tests and a pelvic exam. Meanwhile we could hear the nurses talking badly, saying very loudly that they were banking on my husband having kicked me in the stomach and I was just lying to them about it. Disgraceful staff, poor service. Don't come to this ER.
Husband was in ER for a pelvic fracture on 4/18/17. Staff was unbelievably professional, friendly, & helpful; very attentive to his & family's needs. Time spent in facility was a record, compared to other hospital ERs; we were out in about 5 hours, after X-rays, CT scan, meds & diagnosis. Facility was extremely clean; checkin & checkout was a breeze; paperwork was a minimum. Would definitely recommend this hospital, based on this experience & others with my mother. Towns County is fortunate to have such a professional facility, with knowledgeable & caring staff. Thank you!
I went in to have lab work done as it's the only Labcorp in the area. While drawing the labs they told me they don't have the kits needed to complete two of the tests. They did not tell me in advance or I would not have started. This was Friday morning 8:00am. They said I could come back Monday and complete. As I was leaving I was told give it until Tuesday. I came back Tuesday morning and there was completely different staff there. Then I was told they ordered the kit Monday but they have no idea or control over when it will arrive. They said they would call me when it arrived. Thursday morning I called rather than make a third trip. I was told no one there has any idea about the tests I had or the kit. I asked to speak with the lab mgr who I spoke with Tuesday and was told she is away at an meeting. On Tuesday they put my lab order on their cork board so it would be there when I returned. The woman I spoke with today said it's not there.
I've waited three months for my doctors appointment. I went in ten days before as directed to have the labs done. Now I will have to reschedule my appointment and wait three months and have the labs redone. It cannot be done far before the appointment as things change. Everyone had the attitude it's not my problem. Never again will I go there.
Overall, it's a so-so hospital. If you're in the area and need to visit for something relatively minor (dehydration, viruses, etc.), I would recommend trying it. However, for anything major I would recommend trying to make it to Northeast GA Medical Center in Gainesville, which is about 45 mins away. This is where Chatuge will fly/send you to if it's something major anyways.
